The job she likes, but her colleagues....I think this book intended to explore the concept of a paranoid schizophrenic who is contacted by a genuine extradimensional entity. Part of Em’s anxiety involves her worries about whether or not her father loved her, and even though deep down she knows he did, she still wonders if she was the reason he left.
That old saying isn't entirely accurate in "It's not paranoia if they're really out to get you." The decline of small towns because of power of large corporations and globalization was the time period.

It was a little frustrating because I feel like it was an important part of the book, as it ties in with the way Em is able to fight the entity during the story's climax. What goes into a blog post? The second you see me on stage doing my thing, you know I’m not like the rest. Satifka won't weigh you down with words, but she will keep you guessing at what was real long after the last page.
