When she and Steve gaze at their old apartment building, Khan nearly vomits upon remembering that none of their neighbors tried to intervene. Truths in fine clothes are more appealing than lies in rags. A Better Man features many resonant moments, including Khan cutting a cake in celebration of the anniversary of the day she left Steve. It also empowers audience members to play new roles in challenging domestic violence, whether it’s in their own relationships or as part of a broader movement for social change.
the idea of nick trying to act like a better man to essentially manipulate his wife, while definitely a dick move, intrigued me. That’s mostly due to the fact that Steve is so taciturn we never get a sense of who he is and why he did what he did.
