Troy was a devoted friend to so many, offering a listening ear, wisdom, as well as an amazing sense of humor. He was a conservationist & returned most fish back to the river after catching them. He was a loving husband and father and shared his own childhood love for Colorado with Suzy, Erin and Becca – they spent wonderful and memorable summers in Wagon Wheel Gap each year.
In his academic and professional life, he attended Texas Tech University, followed by University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas where he was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Sonefeld spent his formative years in Naperville, Ill., a suburb of Chicago, and while he played drums as a kid, his first love was sports. The band went on hiatus in 2008 until they announced plans for a full reunion tour in 2019 and released their first new studio album in fourteen years, Imperfect Circle.
Bryan, Felber and Rucker met around 1985, brought Sonef… He was an avid fly-fisherman and enjoyed sitting on the deck of his beloved cabin watching the river go by and training chipmunks to eat from his hand. He was the recipient of 2 Bronze Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Air Medal for heroic and meritorious service.
