I recall some of the camera work was quite good. If the cliches ring a bell, I'll happily answer. That's probably dreaming too much. It feels like the movie equivalent of plain cream of wheat. As to Kern's music in this film, I think I am safe in asserting that no one alive today and working in the theater or films is capable of writing music such as this. Plot. Not bad as I recall, but not memorable as I had to review the synopsis to recall the movie after a few weeks. Too bad he couldn't get more out of Fonda. A bit over-acted by the main female lead and the actress playing her mother. Lily Pons, of course, was a real singer and she performs Jerome Kern's music beautifully.
Lucille Ball, who'd later co-star with Henry Fonda in The Big Street and Yours, Mine and Ours, has a funny minor role as a gum-snapping tourist. I highly recommend this to those like me who dream to much, you will enjoy it. If Columbia could make an acceptable movie star out of opera-diva Grace Moore, then RKO Radio could do the same with Lily Pons. A poignant, lightly comedic story about a recent college grad who volunteers to care for her formidable great aunt. (Kern wrote the production "numbers," the incidental music was set by Max Steiner.) the title attracted me, always being one of those who "dream too much". It wasn't even visually redeeming. I'm sure it has some substantial, nourishing ingredients if you want to consume it, but I couldn't get past the sludge factor.

People who care for each other. You're never too old to dream!
The actress plays Annette, a rural French musical student who marries struggling American composer Jonathan (Henry Fonda). highly recommended for those who appreciate a good day dream However, the supporting cast and other main characters well and are the reason I made it through the story. Annette eventually saves her marriage by transforming her husband's "masterpiece," a rather turgid modernistic opera, into a light-hearted musical comedy. Possessed of a splendid singing voice, our heroine rises to fame on the opera stage, while poor Jonathan continues struggling, supporting himself as a tour guide. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. I am not sure what I expected but the movie had a charm I really feel in love with.
Three things ruined this movie for me: There was something incredibly off-putting about Dora (more manic dullard than the intended quirky young adult?
The film is Cokinos' directorial debut and Richard Linklater served as an executive producer.
Osgood Perkins and Eric Blore do much better in their supporting roles. ""What would you risk for five minutes of pure power?" The main character is extremely childish, self involved and quite hard to watch. The film was obviously gotten together to showcase Lily Pons, so it's no surprise that along with great music and great singing we have a contrived and sometimes silly story. At least that was producer Pandro S. Berman's reasoning when he cast Pons in the 1935 musical romance I Dream too Much.
