The musical is completely based on the songs written by the composer J. Brel, which were translated into English. The revue, consisting of around 25 songs, is performed by four vocalists, two male and two female. Ships from and sold by Classical Music Superstore. In 1968 Yakim directed a Canadian production in Toronto featuring Robert Jeffrey, Judy Lander, Arlene Meadows, and Stan Porter. Three attendees at a puppet theater don various roles in order to sing a variety of songs by Jacques Brel, all while hippies and other eccentrics cavort about them. Brel contributed most of the music and French lyrics; English translations were provided by Eric Blau, Stone's husband, and Mort Shuma Broadway musical soundtrack lyrics. Its original performers were Elly Stone, Mort Shuman, Shawn Elliott, and Alice Whitfield.
