The writing style was very interesting and weird but it felt very much like the original books writing style so I appreciated it.
So, when I started today I was prepared to struggle my way through it.if you’ve read this but haven’t listened to the musical, do yourself a favour and listen to it ASAP. It is sort of a retelling of Alice in Wonderland set during the London Blitz, but it's a lot more bizarre than that.
Not my cup of tea.Day 4 of the Reading Rush, prompt 4: Read the first book you touch.
HOLY MOLY GIVE IT TO ME RIGHT NOW.This was one of those books where I felt like it could’ve been brilliant.
It was weird, didn’t really add to the plot, and I disliked it.
The only thing I have going for me is that I've read Alice's Adventures in Wonde This was an off-broadway musical before it was a book.
This was an off-broadway musical before it was a book. As serious bookworms know, autumn reading is particularly rewarding. Feb 04, 2020 | ISBN 9780451478139 | Young Adult Alfred is very ill. It was weird, didn’t really add to the plot, and I disliked it. London, 1940.
I'm not enjoying it, so I'm not going to force myself to finish it. I'm also not rating it. I loved it.I just love the relationship in this book. “Running out of time in Wonderland.”I read a lot a lot of Alice based books and this one holds up, at times it felt like I was reading Alice due to Slater's style imitating Carroll's to an amazing degree. His other musicals include Alice By… Author Bio: Steven Sater won Tony Awards for Best Book and Best Score, the Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album, as well as the Olivier Award for Best New Musical for Spring Awakening. His other musicals include Alice By… Author Bio: Steven Sater won Tony Awards for Best Book and Best Score, the Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album, as well as the Olivier Award for Best New Musical for Spring Awakening. The connection Steven makes between the two is very well thought out in the book and really worked for me. Overall, not a terribly composed work, but not one I would recommend. Published
Maybe that's the Alice in Wonderland element. I love the musical, so that absolutely contributed to most of my enjoyment of the book.
Also, his writing style didn’t really work for me. We are experiencing technical difficulties. Despite the efforts of the hard-working ensemble, Alice by Heart ultimately doesn't have much heart …
He had plenty other ways of discussing the transition from childhood to adulthood without sexualizing a young girl’s discomfort.
Whoever has shelved this children is wrong--this is not for kids.
So I was going into the biased, and while I'm warning you all of that, I don't really care. HOLY MOLY GIVE IT TO ME RIGHT NOW.I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review.I need to preface this review by saying that I saw the off-Broadway production of ALICE BY HEART, the show that this book is based on. The writing style was very interesting and weird but it felt very much like the original books writing style so I appreciated it. Please try again later. Start by marking “Alice by Heart” as Want to Read: I like how in-depth the book went on the two main characters childhood and how the war has effected them. It's so much more than that, of course, and I was invested fully in the world and characters of THIS Alice from page one. It is a brilliant piece of theatre and when I heard there was going to be a book based on the same story, I knew I was going to love it.
