I'm glad I watched it. California Solo A former rock 'n' roller withers on the vine in "California Solo," Marshall Lewy's forgettable sophomore effort (after a promising beginning with "Blue State"). Robert Carlyle's performance was amazing and I would definitely watch it again and recommend it to friends and family. I too really enjoyed the story a lot. However, to me the plot didn't feel complete. Not a bad thing to achieve for a movie maybe, I was touched anyhow. However, to me the plot didn't feel complete. Robert Carlyle is perfectly cast as a former Scottish rock musician, now emigrated to USA and working on a farm in California. Good, sad, slow at times but Robert Carlyle was really good in it. Perhaps, more than anything, that is the underlying theme of his new movie California Solo. To say that Robert Carlyle's performance is stunning is not hyperbole; it's simple fact. Former British rocker Lachlan MacAldonich has settled into a comfortably in an ordinary existence just outside Los Angeles. Relevant story line for what's going on now. (love his accent too...) I love the introspection as the film goes along, Lachlan having to deal with the consequences of his actions, as well as confronting where his life went off track... and his regrets. Robert Carlyle is a great choice for a lead in this movie, having seen him not show his truly great acting skills in films for the last few years it's nice seeing him back on the silver screen.
