While the expanded villa was being constructed in 36 BC, the building was struck by lightning, and this was interpreted by the soothsayers as a sign from the god Apollo. After stealing her and her son Tiberius away from her husband, he built her the rooms we visit today, with original marble floor tiles, huge arches and domed ceilings.Archaeologists have done an incredible job excavating these ruins, which re opened in 2015. The Palatine Museum exhibits ancient finds from the famous Palatine Hill in Rome. First excavated in 1839, the house has been attributed to Livia on the basis of the name IVLIA AVG[VSTA] stamped on a lead pipe on display on the left-hand wall of the tablinum.
